How to Use the Image Color Replacer

1. Upload an image

Drag and drop an image into the "Upload Image" area, or click "Choose Image" to select a file. PNG, JPG, JPEG, and WebP images are supported, with a maximum file size of 50MB. You can also paste an image copied to your clipboard.

A sample image is displayed by default, so you can try replacing colors without uploading your own image.

2. Choose the source color

Under "Source Color," choose the color you want to replace in the image. Use the color selection area or hue bar, or enter a color code directly.

In browsers that support the eyedropper, click "Pick Color from Image," then click anywhere on the screen to pick the color at that position.

3. Choose the replacement color

Under "Replacement Color," choose the color you want to use instead. As with the source color, you can use the color picker, enter a color code, or pick a color from an image.

4. Adjust color tolerance

Use the "Color Tolerance" slider or number field to adjust how closely a color must match the source color to be replaced. The range is 0–100.

  • Lower values: Replace only colors close to the source color.
  • Higher values: Include a wider range of similar colors.
  • 0: Replace only colors that exactly match the source color.

5. Adjust edge softness

"Edge Softness" smooths the transition between selected and unselected colors. At 0, colors are either replaced or left unchanged based on their similarity to the source color. Higher values blend the original and replacement colors near the selection boundary.

When Color Tolerance is 0, only exact color matches are selected, regardless of the Edge Softness setting.

6. Choose whether to preserve shading

Toggle "Preserve Shading" to change how the replaced colors look.

  • ON: Retain differences in lightness relative to the source color. This is useful for preserving shading in photos and three-dimensional objects.
  • OFF: Replace colors directly with the replacement color. This is useful for giving logos and icons a consistent color.

When this setting is ON, the original image's light and dark areas affect the result, so not every selected pixel will match the replacement color code.

7. Compare the before and after previews

Changes to your settings appear in the preview in real time. Select "After" to view the result or "Before" to view the original image. Compare the original and edited images as you adjust the settings to get the result you want.

8. Set the output dimensions and save as PNG

Under "Output Image Settings," specify the saved image's width and height in pixels. Uploading an image automatically sets these values to its original dimensions, so change them if you want a different size. Turn on "Lock Aspect Ratio" to resize while preserving the original image's proportions.

Once you are happy with the result, click "Download PNG" to save it.

To start over with the settings, click "Reset."

FAQ

Which image formats are supported?

You can load PNG, JPG, JPEG, and WebP images. The maximum file size is 50MB. Results are saved as PNG, even if the original image is a JPG or WebP.

Why can't I use the Pick Color from Image button?

"Pick Color from Image" is available in browsers that support the eyedropper feature. The button is disabled in unsupported browsers. You can still choose colors with the color picker or enter color codes to process your image.

Why do colors in the background or other areas change too?

This tool selects colors across the entire image based on their similarity to the source color. If the background or other areas contain the same or similar colors, those areas will change too. Lowering the tolerance may narrow the selection, but the tool cannot distinguish identical colors by their location.

Why does the result differ from the color code I entered?

When "Preserve Shading" is ON, differences in lightness in the original image affect the resulting colors. Where edge softness applies, the original and replacement colors are also blended. To replace colors directly with the color you specify, turn "Preserve Shading" OFF and set "Edge Softness" to 0, then check the result.

Can I keep a transparent background?

Yes. The image is saved as PNG with its original transparency preserved.

A size error prevents me from saving the image. What should I do?

Output images have limits on width, height, and total pixel count. These limits also vary by device. If your dimensions exceed the limits, reduce the width or height under "Output Image Settings." Reducing the output size may also help if image processing fails.

Are uploaded images stored on a server?

No. Images are processed in your browser, and uploaded images are never sent to or stored on a server.
