How to Use the Image Resizer
1. Upload an image
Click “Choose Image” to select an image file, or drag and drop it into the upload area. You can also paste an image from the clipboard with Ctrl + V or ⌘ + V.
PNG, JPG, JPEG, and WebP images are supported, with a maximum upload size of 50MB.
2. Choose a resize method
Under “Resize Method,” choose from these three options:
- Pixels: Set the output width and height in pixels.
- Percentage: Set the size as a percentage of the original image.
- Fit Within: Set a maximum width and height, and resize the image to fit within those limits while keeping its aspect ratio.
3. Set the size
With Pixels, enter values in “Width (px)” and “Height (px).”
When “Lock Aspect Ratio” is enabled, changing one dimension automatically adjusts the other to match the original image’s aspect ratio. When it is disabled, you can set the width and height independently. Using a different aspect ratio will stretch or compress the image.
With Percentage, set the output size as a percentage of the original image. For example, 50% halves both the width and height, while 200% doubles both dimensions.
With Fit Within, set a maximum width and height. The image keeps its original aspect ratio and is resized so that neither dimension exceeds its limit. If you set limits larger than the original image, it will be enlarged within the supported output size limits.
Note: Enlarging an image only changes its dimensions. It does not add detail or improve image quality.
4. Check the output dimensions
“Original Dimensions,” “Output Dimensions,” and “Output Format” appear below the preview. After changing a value, check that the width and height are what you intended.
“Zoom” above the preview adjusts how large the image appears on screen. Changing the zoom does not change the pixel dimensions of the saved image. Check “Output Dimensions” for the actual size of the downloaded image.
5. Download the image
When you have finished adjusting the settings, click “Resize & Download.” The image is generated at the specified pixel dimensions and can be saved. Its file format is shown under “Output Format.”
Click “Reset” if you want to start over.
FAQ
Can I resize photos taken with a smartphone?
Yes, as long as they are in a supported format. PNG, JPG, JPEG, and WebP images are supported.
Even if a file is within the 50MB limit, your device may not have enough resources to process it.
Can I make an image half its original size?
Yes. Choose “Percentage” and set it to 50% to halve both the original width and height. The image’s aspect ratio is preserved.
Can I make an image larger than the original?
Yes. All three resize methods allow enlargement within the supported output size limits. However, enlarging an image does not improve its quality, so it may look blurry or pixelated.
What is the difference between Fit Within and Pixels?
“Pixels” lets you specify the output width and height directly. “Fit Within” lets you set maximum dimensions and resizes the image to fit within them while preserving its aspect ratio.
Does changing the zoom affect the downloaded image’s size?
No. “Zoom” only changes how large the image appears in the preview. It does not change the downloaded image’s dimensions. Check “Output Dimensions” for the pixel dimensions of the saved image.
Does resizing reduce the file size?
Reducing the number of pixels may make the file smaller, but this is not guaranteed. The result depends on the file format and the image’s content.
Can I crop or cut out part of an image?
This tool changes the dimensions of the entire image.
To remove unwanted areas, use the Image Crop Tool.
Are images uploaded to or stored on a server?
No. Selected images are processed in your browser and are never sent to or stored on a server.
