How to Use the Pixelate Image Tool
The Pixelate Image Tool lets you pixelate an entire photo or image, or apply a mosaic effect only to selected areas.
1. Upload an image
Choose the image you want to pixelate under “Upload Image.” Once it has loaded, the image appears in the preview, where you can see the results as you adjust the settings.
A sample image is displayed by default, so you can try the mosaic effect before uploading your own image.
2. Choose the processing area
Under “Processing Area,” choose either “Whole Image” or “Selected Areas.”
Whole Image
Applies the mosaic effect to the entire image.
Selected Areas
Applies the mosaic effect only to the areas you select on the image. You can create multiple selections.
3. Choose a selection shape
When “Selected Areas” is selected, you can choose the shape of the area to process.
- Rectangle
- Square
- Circle
- Ellipse
- Freehand
Choose a shape that suits your purpose and the object you want to pixelate.
4-a. Select an area with Rectangle, Square, Circle, or Ellipse
Choose a shape, then drag on the preview to create a selection.
4-b. Select an area with Freehand
With “Freehand,” use your mouse or pointer to trace the outline of the area you want to pixelate. When you finish tracing and release the button, the start and end points are automatically connected, and the enclosed area becomes your selection.
5. Adjust your selections
Drag an existing selection on the preview to move it. You can also drag its edges to enlarge or shrink the selected area in place.
You can create multiple areas to process within a single image.
Use the buttons in the top-left corner of the preview to “Undo,” “Redo,” or “Clear All” selections.
6. Adjust the block size
“Block Size” controls the size of the blocks that make up the mosaic. Lower values create a finer mosaic, while higher values create a coarser, stronger pixel effect.
7. Check the preview
Your changes appear in the preview on the right in real time. Check the preview as you adjust the settings and selections.
Switch between “Before” and “After” above the preview to compare the original and processed images.
8. Download the PNG image
Under “Output Image Settings,” you can specify the width and height of the image to save. The dimensions of an uploaded image are filled in automatically, so change them if you want a different output size. Turn “Lock aspect ratio” on to resize the image while preserving the original aspect ratio.
When you are finished, click “Download” to save the processed image.
Notes on Using the Pixelate Image Tool
A mosaic effect makes information in an image harder to see. However, it does not guarantee that sensitive information such as passwords, card numbers, or API keys will be completely concealed.
For important information that must not be shared publicly, do not rely on a mosaic effect alone. Use a method appropriate to your needs, such as removing the relevant area from the original image.
